Sharkey Issaquena Academy Remains Undefeated

Both teams started the game off hot, with both teams having a pair of rushing touchdowns as Sharkey Issaquena Academy (5-0) defeated Briarfield Academy (4-1), 64-46 on Friday September 22.

The game began with two rushing touchdowns, followed by two straight touchdown runs with one of them going for 60 yards, by Sharkey Issaquena’s running back #7 Gary Jackson, who finished with nine carries for 266 yards and five rushing touchdowns.

By the end of the first quarter, Sharkey Issaquena led 16-8 over Briarfield.

After the second quarter, Briarfield started scoring with two touchdowns from the quarterback Ben Coullard to help put Briarfield on top at the half 32-28.

Sharkey Issaquena Started the third with a 47-yard touchdown run from Corderrius Jackson to put them back on top before Tom Davis III got a crucial interception that let to another score to help put Sharky Issaquena up by 7.

“I just told them to just maintain, be displayed, keep hitting and stop being the nail and become the hammer.,” Head coach Matt Holman on what he told his team at half time.

Davis, the cornerback/wide receiver, won the MPACT Mississippi award, given to the player who had the biggest impact. He finished with three rushes for 38 yards, along with three tackles, a quarterback sack and the crucial interception.

Gary Jackson won are Cricket Wireless Player of the game. He finished with 266 yards rushing, five rushing touchdowns, one catch for 10 yards and a score while on defense he racked up an interception.

Sharkey Issaquena Academy will go on the road next Friday to Tallulah Academy at seven while Briarfield Academy will be back at home to face Claiborne Academy at seven.
