High-Octane Clash: Deer Creek School Triumphs Over West Memphis Christian in Thrilling game with playoff implications


The game started off at a blistering pace as both teams score on their opening possession of the game as Deer Creek School (3-6) defeated West Memphis Christian School (4-5), 46-38 on Friday October 20.

In the first quarter, Eli Ford of West Memphis started the scoring off with a 20-yard touchdown run, and Deer Creek answered right back with a score of their own with a touchdown pass from Bo Ray to Grand Toliver.

The first quarter ended with West Memphis up 18-14 over Deer Creek.

It was not until Brayden Smith scored one of his five touchdowns of the night that Deer Creek took back the lead 22-18, before West Memphis converted on a bad throw from Deer Creek’s Ray that turned into a pick six as West Memphis took a 26-22 lead into halftime.

Brayden Smith got the third quarter started with a bang as he ran 40 yards for his second touchdown of the night, before Eli Ford of West Memphis answered right back with a 65-yard pass to Ashton Sampley.

It was the Brayden Smith show, as he won the Cricket Wireless player of the game award off his video game numbers, where he ranked up 28 carries for 278 yards and five touchdowns rushing, one reception and while on defense ranked up a tackle.

Javion Williams, the running back/ linebacker, won the MPACT Mississippi award, given to the player who had the biggest impact. He finished with 13 carries for 46 yards and one touchdown. On defense, he had one tackle and an interception.

Deer Creek is at home nest week when they host Prairie View Academy for round one of the playoffs, while West Memphis Christian season ended their season at 4-6 .
